This is only the 3rd disc by this Denver born hipster (in the Beatnik sense of the word) long time friend and sometime collaborator with Tom Waits (they both have that gravelly voiced part spoken delivery), and long ago drummer for Lightnin’ Hopkins, who became a legend in the Rickie Lee Jones song “Chuck E’s In Love.” The band on the disc has played with him for a long time and is made up of the likes of Tony Gilkyson on guitars and then some, Don
Heffington on drums percussion and more, Mike Murphy on keyboards, and Steve Nelson on basses. He is a story-teller who revels in tall tales in the groove of the song, the swing of the thing. His take on this disc describes it best; “I like to call it ‘discom-bop-ulated jive”. Settle back in and just groove with him as he spins his stories.
