This disc was a very pleasant surprise in a number of ways, and for an indie that is self-produced it is an amazingly good record, forget that it is an indie; it is just flat out an excellent record. It is sequenced exceptionally well, starting out with the gentle “Getaway”, that is filled with satisfying guitar licks, that fit the mood established by the song, to a more up tempo “Sitting Here (Too Long)” which rocks the house and shows off more of the guitar prowess and good taste this man possesses, and so on through the disc building and then letting the listener rest and recover from intricate and or upbeat sonic excursions; however don’t take to mean that there are throwaway songs as they all have something to say. He wrote all the songs and it is one of the best collections I have heard on a debut disc in a long time. There is a great feel and cohesiveness to the entire disc that shows how far along this musician is in this career, a maturity not often seen. He recorded most of this himself with his mobile recording unit and only 2

of the 12 tracks were recorded in a studio, and he plays most of the instruments, including; vocals, guitars, piano, Rhodes, organ, harmonica, percussion and about 5 or 6 more though on some cuts he does have some other musicians accompanying him.
His guitar work at times has the resonance of John Cipollina, the legendary guitarist of Quicksilver Messenger Service, and at other times has the a much more wah-wah pedal affect and the tasty feedback that is reminiscent of Frank Zappa. This is a well-recorded debut disc and we can expect to see and hear a great deal more from this guitarist that plays with Grace Potter and The Nocturnals (personally I will be disappointed).
