Retriever is the newest disc from this Canadian singer/songwriter, and follows up where Cobblestone Runway left off. His songs are tender and touching glimpses into his world. Martin Terefe produced both of these discs, and he has achieved an ornate and elaborate sound that is reminiscent of the pop resonance of the early Beatles. He makes good use of strings and synthesizer effects to enhance the pensive, contemplative and emotional potency of the tunes, and maintains that delicate balance of not too

much. There is sincerity in this disc that is rarely marred by a misplaced word or note. The only time that comes into play is on the Cobblestone Runway disc, with a seemingly displaced ode to the love of god, “God Loves Everybody,” that seems jarringly out of place. Otherwise these two discs exhibit a song craftsmanship that is a reminiscent, at least in craft, of the work of Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, and to a certain extent Bob Dylan.
