This iconoclast occupies a very extraordinary position in the hearts and minds of his fellow musicians, a diverse group of friends ranging from Guy Clark (co-produced 2 albums for him), to Steve Earle (multi-insturmentalist in Earle’s Bluegrass Dukes), Keb Moe and The Dixie Chicks among others have used songs he has penned.  Yet to the larger public this man is virtually unknown except by those who take the time to look at the credits and notice the huge number of outstanding songs he has written.   The many facets he has excelled at; songwriting, producing, and as a multi-instrumentalist on Dobro, guitar, lap steel, banjo and mandolin (those he is known for, but he plays many more) have made him as hard to classify as his songwriting which spans a wide ranging spectrum of genres, he is mostly associated with Country music but his writing spans a much broader spectrum.

significant group of fellow musicians; Kenny Malone on drums, Danny Thompson on upright bass, Andrea Zonn on violin and John Catchings on cello to name but a few,  whom he has provided support for in a plethora of ways on their past endeavors. His styles here range from folk, to folk-rock, to bluegrass, to that nebulous category of songs that is unable to be slipped into any other genre, and that gets called roots music.  This is also his most political album of songs, in which he states his feelings about the swings of thinking in this country.  Though he may seem to be invisible he is certainly not unheard and his audience seems to be deservedly growing by the day. This is a disc that has a wide variety of surprising treats to offer to those who will take the time to listen.
