This 4-piece band that now hails from the San Francisco Bay area had its initial start across the country at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, when John-Paul McLean and Jonathan Chi met on the first day of class. The 2 had an immediate synergy and began writing and playing around in the area, John-Paul on vocals and bass, and Jonathan on vocals and guitar. They moved to Northern California and worked in a studio and had opportunity to work with a wide variety of musicians of many genres, thus influencing their writing and playing, eventually hooking up with Inkx Herman (drums, percussion) from South Africa and Jordan Feinstein (keyboards, vocals) building into the storm that is Rainmaker. This is not an acoustic band, however the music has that feel to it, there are no long extended solos or screaming passages that demand attention; there is just solid playing
and the solos taken are all within the context of the song. Instead this band relies on good songwriting, all songs by Jonathan Chi, and solid ensemble playing with good harmonies, at times there is a funkified feel to them. Having Mickey Hart (percussion), Dave Zirbel (steel guitar), and Eric Levy (additional keyboards, Analog Synthesizers) helps flesh out the sound and give it just that extra bit more punch. This is a first disc by this group and there is already anticipation for the next foray because of the promise they display.
