porterdavis is the name that Daniel Barrett, Simon Wallace, and Mike Meadows call their group. The name comes from Porter Square and Davis Square in Boston where Mike and Daniel started out their musical careers by busking. A move to the warmer musical atmosphere and climate of Austin, Texas, and a meeting with Simon Wallace and lo the band is born. Daniel is responsible for the guitars; acoustic, electric and slide electric, and lead vocals, Mike Meadows handles all the percussion drawing on his collection of unique of instruments from the world over, and vocals, and Simon plays the harmonica, Chicago Blues style, and adds vocals. The three of them contributed in all different configurations, to write 7 of the 10 songs. They enlisted producer Gruff Morlix to produce this effort, and he also handles the bass and provides vocals on “Take The Fall”. The only other guest is Eliza Gilkyson contributes harmony vocals on “Carter’s Tune”.

This is gritty roots music; they mix blues, folk, and R & B with a driving beat and good lyric to give a soulful mix of music. There are good 3 part harmonies on many of the songs, which really distinguishes this group and sets them apart from many of the other bands around. Good songwriting always wins out and they are blessed with that. This is one of those bands that it might be a smart idea to keep tabs of, and be aware of, so that their future recordings can be grabbed up quickly.
