This is the first major release of Galician (the strongly Celtic area of northern Spain) gaita, Galician bagpipes, Carlos Nu~n~ez.  This is a stunning effort showing the strong influences of traditional Celtic music, that seemed to flow down the western coast of Europe to the green and fertile land, the Spanish Flamenco, which rode the winds up from the south, and the Latin American rhythms, that flowed back with the returning emigrants from Buenos Aires.  Carlos has become closely associated with the Chieftains since he first performed with them in 1989, he has since become the seventh Chieftain, continually performing with them throughout the world.

On this disc he uses a wide assortment of players in every type of configuration the imagination can conceive of, Paddy Moloney, with and without the rest of the Chieftains, Ry Cooder, Luz Casal, and his own band, Diego Bouzo'n; Spanish guitar, Pancho Alvarez; bouzouki, mandolin, acoustic guitar, Fernando Fraga; accordion, piano, keyboards, Marcos Va'squez; bodhran, drum, tympany, percussion, Enrique Iglesias; violin, and Carlos Nunez; gaita, recorder, whistle, ocarina, jews harp.  The playing is stellar, showing the guiding influence of musical mastery and careful production that Paddy Moloney has had upon Carlos.  The music unfolds like the carefully orchestrated whole that it is, starting with the beautiful opening of DAWN, going through all the changes and blending of his myriad influences,  and ending with upbeat and driving rhythms of PARA VIGO ME VOY.
