This newest John Mooney disc is immediately recognizable by John’s distinctive rhythmic slide guitar playing, which combined with his growly vocal style makes him one of the most distinctive musicians playing today.  His syncopated timing and phrasing just push him to that area of the instantaneous one of a kind musicians.  This disc is an extension of the musical journey he has been making for us (and himself) since he first started playing with the slide Delta blues singer, “Son” House, all those years ago before he had ever moved to New Orleans and absorbed the rhythms that pervade the Crescent City.  He is playing here with his longtime band mates; Jeff

Sarli on bass, and Alfred “Uganda” Roberts on congas and percussion.  New Orleans mainstays Jon Cleary on keyboards and Raymond Webber on drums among others augment them on various tracks.  Mooney wrote 9 of 11 songs and these fit right in with the style of music he is known for.  A solid effort that extends the boundaries of the music.
