This singer songwriter only gets better with each passing album.  Her voice has gotten stronger and more powerfully self-assured about her songs, which makes for a dynamic mix.  Whether this is because her songwriting has gotten stronger, or she is more sure of her music is a mute point, it is just there for all to see.  Her songs are literate in the story telling vein and they neither talk down to, nor do they pull back and take the easy road.  A host of characters that come from our inner histories and those of the books we’ve read and myths we’ve grown with inhabit her songs giving them life.  Charlie Sexton who also contributes some excellent guitar work that is not frivolous, but rather enhances the songs, produced this disc.  He is joined by a crack set of musicians who are experienced and ego free enough to sit back when its time and yet really push the music when it is called

for; Keyboard/organist Ian McLagan; drummer Raymond Weber; bass players Tony Garnier and Tony Hall; and multi-instrumentalist Greg Lisz.  She wrote or co-wrote all but 2 of the songs and even on those she covers she makes them her own. Listen to the beautiful and tender Bobby Charles classic “Tennessee Blues”, quite a change of character from the tough on “The Hard Way”.  Only her second album and she is skyrocketing to a lofty pinnacle in the singer/songwriter world.
