The story behind this group of musicians has been told by Brian Jones on the album, “Brian Jones Presents, Pipes of Pan at Joujouka,” a similar, though more discombulated disc.   That earlier disc also included some of the chanting recorded in 1968 that achieved notoriety due to attachment of Jones’ name. These are better recordings and were done as part of a two-year project starting in 1994, and it focuses on the instrumental portion of the music and ignores the chants.  This is trance music played mostly on flutes, rhaitas (a reed instrument), and hand drums, that is associated with the character Boujeloud (think Pan of Greek myths, half man half goat) This music comes from a small village in the mountains of Morocco, by musicians who are trained all their lives to play, this discs is done by 4 generations of those musicians.  It is quite an interesting disc,

particularly when compared to the Brian Jones disc, but it stands well on its own 4 feet, whether they be cloven or not.

'Whatever you give a woman, she will make greater. If you give her sperm, she'll give you a baby. If you give her a house, she'll give you a home. If you give her groceries, she'll give you a meal. If you give her a smile, she'll give you her heart.  If you give her any crap, be ready to receive a ton of shit.'  anonymous in witness protection program
