Kate Mackenzie’s rich, fluid, and powerful voice, and singularly remarkable phrasing dominate this disc. This is the voice of pure gold with all its warmth and energy radiating through. I don't think there is anyone singing at this time that comes near to what she is doing in this field. In fact her voice is so full and encompassing that it is the dominant instrument, that it is not until a second listen that one notices the tightness of the players behind her. The playing is crisp and strong, but they never seem to stretch out on the songs. It is her disc and dominated by her voice, however I would like to hear a bit more of the players stretching, as I think it would give the songs a more dynamic tension. It is easy for a reviewer to pick apart some else's work once it is done, and difficult to replace it with an equally valid piece of work. Her voice is so stunning it is worth the price of admission alone, and this tight group sure does keep the disc coursing along.
