Lonesome Spurs is a band that generates a hell of a lot of frenetic sound for just two people. Between the characteristic twang of Danny Harvey’s telecaster and the powerful yet sensual and blistering vocals of Lynda Kay as she plays tenor guitar and kick drum (this is a homemade suitcase drum), there is a room full of sound that belies that there are only 2 people playing. In addition to the playing the two of them, either singly or together they wrote 12 of the 13 songs on the disk (the thirteenth is the traditional “Rollin’ (In My Sweet Baby’s Arms)”. This is a disc with a sound that harks back to the original melding of Honky-tonk country and Rock and Roll. The pace for the most part is no holds barred, fast and furious and rough and raw. His sound on the guitar is about as raw and jangly as it gets, this
brings back the sounds of Nervous Norvous and his 1956 hit song “Transfusion”. The sound is almost that raw demo quality where the recording room is too big and it gives the sound a slight edge. Her voice comes close to the energy and edginess of Wanda Jackson, and has that same depth of feeling. It is not the sound everyone loves, however if you love roots and throwback music (that primal combination of country music and primitive rock) this is definitely a disc for you to get your hands on.
