Straight from the guitar’s neck, pushing any barriers that are remaining, and always stretching the limits of his direction, is what Sonny Landreth does best. This is his best disc to date, and I know I said that about South of I-10, but this one shows the growth of 8 years. He is arguably the best slide-guitarist playing today, and definitely the most innovative. Sometimes his mastery of the instrument overshadows how effortlessly he integrates different styles into his work. he is rooted in the blues but easily brings the total swamp of Louisiana along with him. You can hear the swamp dripping in “Falling For You” and “Gone Pecan” and the swing-blues shuffle influences in “Gemini Blues”. You can tell he kept

his ears and mind open for all the years he worked as a session musician. Listen to his fingers dance on the fret board as he is playing slide, and try to name another guitarist who has the technical ability of this man combined with the innovative mind to put it all together. Knock out production by R. S. Field, Sonny Landreth, and Tony Daigle. Don’t miss this one, it is a true masterpiece.
