This disc is a collaboration between Ms Shelley King and 3 of the members of the subdudes; John Magnie, Steve Amedee, and Tim Cook. For any of you unfamiliar with the subdudes, they are favorites of New Orleans, with their rhythms and beautiful harmonies of the swampy – rock - jazzy – bluesy kind of roots. This disc is the intersection where the church’s gospel music meets the spices and blended flavors of the Southern Swamps, a roots music masterpiece. You have here a disc in which Ms King wrote 7 of the 11 songs, co-wrote “How You Make Me Feel” with Floramay Holliday, “I Can’t Make It Easy” with John Magnie, and “Everything’s All Right” with Theresa Andersson. Tim Cook and Steve Strickland wrote the remaining song “Asking Too Much”. The 4 of them produced and arranged this whole sonic slice of harmony.

You have a wide range of songs here ranging from the call and response “I Remember” to the beautiful ballad that is a paragon of New Orleans R & B “It’s Starting To Rain” to the Cajun sounding “Everything’s All Right” to the a-cappella with handclaps and tambourine that grace “Welcome Home Reprise.” The harmonies throughout are absolutely stunning and you have a beautiful meeting of Shelley King’s very soulful voice with the rich and warm soul of the subdudes singing. This is a joining of forces that we would love to hear more from in the not too distant future.
