This is the first studio release of this smooth, bluesy, and soulful voiced artist since 2006’s “Suitcase.”  It is a very mellifluous disc that does not have any rough edges on it that will catch on anything or fray anything that comes in contact with it.  His vocals have that soulful touch he has always possessed, however the music here is gentler and there is much more of a mellow touch to the music.  It seems to be music for a quiet rainy night at home, away from the world outside.  He wrote or co-wrote all the songs but one and that is the Glen Frey/Don Henley classic that was such a hit for the Eagles, “One Of These Nights.” 

There are 3 guests spot on this disc that and they are grouped together in the middle of the disc and don’t seem to add any great depth to the it.   There is a duet with India Arie, he uses Dave Koz on Alto Sax on one, and only the duet with Vince Gill adds a bit of a difference to the disc and that is because there is a bit of punch to that song.  Frankly the solos Dave Koz helps turn the Frey/Henley tune into something like Teflon, not smooth, but so slick that nothing sticks to it at all.  There is virtually very little grit to make the disc noticeable except for that duet with Mr. Gill, and on the last song, “Something Within.”   If you like your music smooth and easy this is a wonderful disc, there is nothing that will cause the applecart to even tilt, however if you like some grit and punch in your music move on.
