This disc brings out some of the best music, the most varied tunes and some of the most heartfelt singing, we have yet heard from this woman. One of the assets of this disc is the number of distinguished guest guitarists she brings to the music she has on display. They are a varied group, ranging from Bob Margolin, Sue Foley, Dave Alvin, Junior Watson, Kid Ramos, Ana Popovic, Poppa Chubby, and Bob Brozman, representing many of the facets of the Blues. All the while solid support is provided by her road touring band which is a solid unit.
The song writing here deserves some special note as she wrote/co-wrote 7 of the songs and used, many songs either written or co-written by Jack
Tempshin, who seems to have a special feeling for what is needed. Give a listen to “Jesus and Mohammed,” and feel the finger on the pulse of what is happening in this gospelish tune. The disc is co-produced by both Candye and Bob Margolin who also contributed his always solid guitar work, and he wrote a song for the disc also. Her voice is full and she hits these songs just in the right manner, hats off to all concerned.
