For a debut disc this is one to make you open your eyes wide and look around. As much twang as there is in this ladies voice, when she wants to get right on down to it she can rock with anyone. There also shows in her voice and phrasing a good amount of a blues influence. The songs here are definitely country in feel and sensibility, but they have that little something extra that prevents them from sounding like the vacuous radio hits that pass for country music. The song that comes closest to a ‘good old country standard is Be That Way, and that shows off her strong voice, and lets those rocking influences sneak in there. The songs display a broad and open sense of music in general, their appeal is much more broad base than the traditional country music. The band playing behind her is tight and stays with her on all the changes doing an admirable job in supporting her and the sound quality is very good. I am intrigued and am looking forward to the next disc.
