Corey Harris’ musical journey continues with this foray into the fusion with the foundations of Blues and his African roots. This disc seems at a casual listen to have little to do with the Blues, but upon further listening the roots of the foundation are firmly embedded in the music. It tends to lean more to the African side of the Blues than to the American. It is lighter and more lyrical more open spaced than what we have come to think of. It has more of a feel of the tropical breezes we associate with the islands between Africa and America. It is a beautiful disc with many subtle hidden treasures waiting to be discovered by
those that are willing to spend some time listening. It could be light background music except that you will find yourself getting involved with it whether you want to or not. It has the warmth and intrigue to totally envelope you with or without your permission. A subtle treasure just waiting to transform and transfix you.
