This debut disc from Dave Gonzalez of the Paladins and Chris Gaffney, of among others Dave Alvin’s Guilty Men, had a big wish come true when Dan Penn agreed to produce the disc.  Dan Penn of the Muscle Shoals sound, Otis Redding, and the writer of such hits as “Do Right Woman,” waltzed into Tucson with a hit he wrote specifically for Gaffney’s voice, “The Years That Got Away.”  Gonzalez and Penn evidently hit it off and formed a mutual admiration society and also co-wrote “Lookin’ For Loneliness,” after an impromptu session out in the desert.

There is a fantastic version of the Fred Neil classic, “I’ve Got A Secret.”   This is a disc filled with what might be Southwestern Soul, a bunch of old time country with a huge chunk lot of soul.
