The opening strains of CROSSING THE CAUSEWAY, give you an idea of the power of this group. There is some fine fiddling from Peter Jellard, in a Cajun vein, preceding the strong voice and phrasing of Michelle Rumball. This is a powerful and grabbing way to start us out on their gritty roots rock journey through Canada's cities, small towns, wide open spaces, and the characters and events populating them. The playing is tight and fitted to the songs, strengthening and stretching the moods the songs create. Listen to the lament of the a-cappella DEATH'S DARK STREAM. Most of the songs are written, or co-written, by Chuck Angus who displays a strong identity with the characters and situations in the songs. This is one you should not miss.
