From the opening fiddle on LA VIE MARRON, to the closing strains of BOOGALOO, it is apparent you have gone to the Bayou country of Louisiana, but you are not traveling by the normal vehicle of transportation. This is Cajun music through and through, but this band puts a unique twist on the music without loosing any of the integrity of the Cajun Tradition. The addition of piano to the traditional mix of instruments, and the way it is played brings whole new dimensions to this music. You can tell this group is based in the old Cajun and Zydeco tradition, but they have brought some newness to the music. It brings through on the disc all the sounds and smells of the back in the woods friendly neighborhood honky-tonk. Before I go further let me say that both on the disc, and in person this band makes you get up and dance. They transformed a Tucson desert dance floor into a Louisiana backwoods swampy dance hall. The band is tight and strong throughout, and the disc reflects this with no throw-aways at all. The tempo reflects all of Cajun music and it is just as tight as can be no matter what spins and whirls the band takes off on. The group wrote five of the eleven songs and their joy of playing music is apparent in those plus a most wonderful sense of humor. Please give a listen to both FIDO DIXIELAND, and LOUP GAROU MANGE PAS MES ENFANTS (my translation is werewolf don't eat my children). Go out and get this one now.
