This 1991 release is The Chieftains, and a multitude of various friends, all-joining together to dispense some of the cheer of Christmas in Ireland. There was a tease for us with the magnificent opening with the bell-ringers of Christchurch Cathedral, Dublin, and they were never heard from again. This CD has one of the most eclectic guest lists that you will ever run across.  We range from Burgess Meredith to Elvis Costello, from the Renaissance Singers to Marianne Faithfull to Jackson Browne and Rickie Lee Jones.  Though a farrago of guests it is pulled together as no one else except The Chieftains, with Paddy Moloney responsible for the arrangements, can possibly do.  This CD sticks together like the porridge of a thick winter morn holds to your warm insides.  THE BELLS OF DUBLIN,  brings you right into the spirit of a more traditional Christmas without the monetary trappings of the new world.  You wend your way on a wonderful journey right up to the final strains of O COME ALL YE FAITHFUL with the Renaissance Singers.  The True Spirit of Christmas with all its diversities is wondrously and joyously presented to enchant our season for years we have yet to see.
