When this came in the mail I just casually put it to one side as its companion was the disc I was interested in, I had never heard of Paul Burlison, and there were tremendous constraints on my time. A few days later sat down to relax and blindly reached over to read the liner notes for a different disc to read while I was listening and this one came up in my hand. Oh well, and I started to glance through it. Wow this guy is 70 years old? Huh! Then I glanced at the list of people helping out on this disc. It was so outstanding that I figured I'd better give it a listen. Didn’t regret it for a minute. I do kick myself for not putting it on earlier. This disc has enough power and rock to cause an avalanche in your house. Paul Burlison plays one of the rockingest guitars that I have heard in a long time and with plenty of fuzz. He played in the "Rock'n'Roll Trio" with Johnny and Dorsey Burnette, and put the fuzz in the fuzztone. The support musicians (if this distinguished group can be called that) reads like a who's who of players. Handling vocals on various cuts are people such as Mavis Staple, Kim Wilson Levon Helm, David Hidalgo, and Rocky and Billy Burnette (the sons of his former Trio mates). The cast of musicians is equally stellar. The best thing is the power, grace and consistently fantastic playing that fills this disc. There is not a weak cut to be found. Think of one of those huge steam belching engines powering its way down the track at full bore with a full load of cars behind it. That is the power that is exhibited on each cut here, even though they move through so many different configurations of the band and types of Rock and Roll. If you like your music full, hot and just powerful pick this one up.
