Keith Brown comes from a family of sharecroppers who hail from the Mississippi delta, though he was born in Memphis, TN, so his roots are genuine and it shows through in this playing in a number of ways. He was a musical sponge while growing up, and played whatever he heard, and then his moment of ‘ah ha’ came when he first heard Muddy Waters, and then it was Son House who provided the major impetus to his playing. The raw passion of this bluesman turned Keith’s world around, and became the musical inspiration. The playing of the blues led this history major that graduated magna cum laude to switch his focus to his history, and this intertwined with the blues musical history has led him on an interesting journey. This disc of 13 tunes 5

penned by Brown and the rest by such luminaries as Son House, Skip James and Blind Lemon Jefferson among others is a showcase for his considerable talents, both as a guitarist and a singer. This disc is subtitled Alone and Acoustic so you have just Mr. Brown, his slide, his guitar and his voice and they provide quite an earful, particularly for those of you who think this genre has said all it can.
