Big George Brock is the real deal of a bluesman, he has picked cotton been a club owner and a boxer as well as played the harp. His life has had those ups and downs that must be faced to come out the other side and know what you are speaking of. If you never got to see people like Muddy, The Wolf, and Willie Dixon, do yourself a favor, treat yourself and go out and listen to this disc and then go see this man while he is still around. On this CD we are treated on 2 cuts with Hubert Sumlin, from Howlin’ Wolf’s band on guitar. This is the old time Delta Blues and was recorded in the Electric Catfish Studio in Oxford, Mississippi, with some solid musicians who play and feel the blues from the area. Big George is a master on the Hohner harmonicas, and he wrote all but four of the song. If you aren’t already a blues fan but just like your music raw and real than you can’t do better than this, and if you know the blues get a real jumpin’ dose of those good authentic roots from a man who epitomizes the tradition.

On this DVD you are treated to not only music (2 different bands most of it the band that accompanied him on his first disc, “Club Caravan”, and only a couple of cuts from the “Round 2” CD) and a lot of his history and the reasons for the title “Hard Times”. The DVD has some outstanding music that and they don’t overlap cuts The DVD gives some invaluable background on the musician, the area and times he comes from, other musicians who came from the same area or he played with , and the life he led. The CD is for the music and is for your listening and dancing pleasure and it is a gem.
