Singer/songwriter, Jeff Black, has given us another gem of a disc in his fight to make sure each of his songs paints a full picture. His songs have been recorded by such diverse folks as Sam Bush, Waylon Jennings, and Jo-El Sonnier, which shows his wide appeal to a disparate group of artists that cross many genre. He pulls no punches on this disc with his songwriting and comes charging out of the gate with “Easy On Me,” a folk tune shot full of the blues. His music wanders the landscape of country and heads into that hard rocking side of county at times, but he never falls into that Nashville pap. His lyrics

fasten onto the rough crosscurrents of everyday life with an intensity that captures the convolution of life now. Yet some of the songs show off such an emotionally tender side, “Hollow of Your Hand,” that it is difficult believing they come from the same mind. This is an artist that is constantly stretching himself and leaving nothing to chance, and this is his best disc to date.
