This is one of founding members of the original The Paul Butterfield Band is not only still playing 40 odd years later, but also still evolving and producing exciting new music for us.  This disc happened about when Elvin and band members went on the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise and all these friends stopped by to say hello and jam, and the tapes rolled and rolled.  Longtime band mates Steve Willis on piano, accordion, and vocals, Terry Hanck on tenor sax and vocals, Ed Earley on trombone, vocals and percussion, and Bobby Cochran on drums and vocals are joined by guests such as John Nemeth on vocals and harmonica, Finis Tasby on vocals, and Chris (Kid) Andersen on guitar. 

Elvin Bishop has always been known as a stylistic original on the guitar and on this disc he really shines.  A quick note the notes here are quite good as they tell the order of the solos and the vocals; i.e., who takes first lead and who follows that up and so on.  And he is one smart cookie; he knows singing is not his strong suit so has others who are fat more accomplished there do the majority of the singing.  He has always been a gracious host when he is the leader of the band and everyone gets ample opportunity to step into the spotlight and have it shine on them.  No one disappoints with his or her turn either.  The music is good and loose and the crowd noise in the background is kept to a minimum so the concentration is on the playing.  The only complaint about the disc is that there is not a lot separation in the sound.  The sound could be a lot cleaner and clearer maybe it is the impromptu ness of the on the boat, off the cuff recording.  However it does give the listener a good idea of the punch that is in the Elvin Bishop Band particularly when friends are stopping by to spur him on.
