This band has managed to capture the true sound of Roy Orbison, and David Fisher, the main songwriter, says he never heard Roy Orbison while growing up. He certainly doesn’t have the 3-octave range of Orbison (at least he hasn’t shown it yet), but the feeling of Orbison’s voice, that lonesome ache that so seemed to characterize it, is pervasive in the songs. David Fisher seems to be a main architect of the band and he either wrote, or co-wrote with Douglas Soref, all of the songs but one on this disc; that song “Buck Wild” is a hidden track was written by Scott Minchk (the guitar player in the band). The songs even sound as if they are songs written for or by the man with the operatic Rock and Roll
voice. The music is composed of the same elemental mix of Country and Rock and Roll that Orbison used. Because Fisher’s voice doesn’t have that low growl you don’t think you are listening to Roy Orbison, however the feeling of the songs combined with the elements of the song immediately bring him to mind. Listen to “Her Come Those Dreams Again,” and try and tell yourself it isn’t a lost Roy Orbison song. Though the band is derivative in its sound, it does it very well and should not be dismissed as a clone band, they have much more to offer and it will be interesting to watch this band grow.
