Terri Allard is a singer with a smooth smoky big voice that writes her own songs of the in and outs of everyday life and sings them out in straight forward way that most people in America will be able to relate to. Her songs are gentle tender looks at the loves and curves in the road that are distinctive in their self reflective way of looking at life without ever becoming self-indulgent. Her voice has an emotional depth that is capable of handling her songs no matter the genre she ambles into. Her songs basically skirt at the folk/country /pop ways but she often drifts into blues and jazz which she handles exceptionally well. Her songs, which compare well with people such as Nanci Griffith and Mary Chapin Carpenter with their maturity and level of truth, come across in a very convincing manner due to the way that she wraps herself into them. The voice has a power and at the same time lays a claim to a latent power that speaks of emotional sincerity and depth. This disc is 11 new songs from her pen and there isn't anything weak here, in fact three of them are particularly strong. Give a listen to the title cut, "Forbidden Fruit", and the strength in "Reckless Abandon" to get a real feel for the profundity
tucked away in her voice. The band behind her is a steady group particularly shining are Gary Green on harmonica, and Jeff Saine on lap steel and accordion. This is one of those sleepers that sure crept up on me, and a very pleasant gift it is indeed.
